More than 20 children held hostage by a man in a studio in Mumbai’s Powai area were safely rescued by police and fire teams on Thursday, an official said.
“All the children are safe,” said Joint Commissioner of Police Satyanarayan.
“A man, identified as Rohit Arya, who appeared to be mentally unstable, has been taken into custody,” another official said.
The dramatic situation took place in the RA Studio near the L&T building on Thursday afternoon for over an hour.
The children, boys and girls around the age of 15, were invited to an “audition”, according to preliminary information.
Before the children were rescued, Arya posted a video on social media saying she wanted to talk to a few people and ask them questions, and she didn’t want money.
If he was not allowed, he would set the studio on fire, he threatened, PTI reported.
