Without prior permission can not protest:
On Tuesday, the High Court in Mumbai stated that Marath’s activist Maratha MANOJ JARANGE could not organize a protest without prior permission of the authorities and quote the situation and order in Mumbai during the Ganesh Festival.
The bench of the main judge of Aradhe and the Justice Sandeep Marne said that while democracy and dissent are going hand in hand, demonstrations should only take place in designated places.
The bench said the government could ask whether to offer an alternative place in Kharghar in Navi Bombai to respondent (Jarange) to organize a peaceful protest so that the pace of life in Mumbai would not be disturbed.
The court stated that peace protests could be carried out after the authorization is requested according to the new rules for public assemblies and agitation. The court noted that the police would be busy maintaining law and order in the city during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
