MS Dhoni (BCCI/IPL Photo) New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings suffered a big blow with Routuraj Gaikwad excluded from the rest of the IPL 2025 due to the fracture of the elbows. Mrs. Dhoni is ready to take over the captain’s duties for the rest of the season.
Chief coach Stephen Fleming confirmed the development on Thursday before the domestic collision of CSK with Kalkata Knight.
“Ruturaj Gaikwad expelled from the IPL with a fracture on the elbow. Mrs. Dhoni took over the captain,” Fleming said on Thursday Mediaperons.
“As far as the replacement is concerned, we have several options in the group. We did not allow anyone. Dhoni was ready to take over. He understood where it came from,” Fleming said.
Dhoni led CSK in a record 235 matches, including all five franchise wins.
IPL triumphs CSK under Dhoni came in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023.

In 2022, Ravindra Jadeja was appointed a captain, but Dhoni was forced to re -accept the reins in the middle of the season due to a number of bad performances.
Before the season 2024, Dhoni handed over the captain’s baton to Gaikwad.
CSK is currently disappearing in the penultimate place in the table with only one of five matches.
