Stephen Fleming on CSK’s overhaul, pressure player rule and impact on bowling On Sunday, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad announced Dhoni’s return after winning the toss and opting to bat first. He said, “MS (Dhoni) is slowly coming back, it takes some time, if he is ready to play, it will be soon.”Dhoni’s absence has naturally raised questions as to whether the team misses his presence on the field.CSK had earlier confirmed that Dhoni is sidelined with a calf strain and is undergoing rehabilitation. “MS Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a calf strain. As a result, he is likely to miss the first two weeks of IPL 2026. Get well soon Thala,” the franchise said.Despite not playing, head coach Stephen Fleming emphasized that Dhoni remains deeply involved with the team. “It’s just a game without him. He’s still heavily involved in the side and his influence remains very strong,” Fleming said ahead of the Punjab Kings clash.
When could MS Dhoni return for CSK?
If recovery continues as expected, Dhoni could be back when CSK take on Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14 in Chennai. Should that timeline extend, the next possible return would be against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18.CSK will also be hoping to have their talisman back in time for the high-stakes clash against Mumbai Indians on April 23, where his experience and leadership could prove crucial.
