South African young talent Dewald Brevis was thinking about his short but meaningful shadow with Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 and described it as an experience in forming a career. While CSK endured the unsatisfactory season, Brevis said that sharing the dressing room with Mrs. Dhoni was unforgettable, especially because of the humility and openness of the captain of the former India.
Brevis, when he spoke on AB de Villiers’ YouTube, remembered how Dhoni had always made available to his teammates, often welcomed them to his room to talk about cricket, horses or life in general. He said that the presence of former captain India was as inspiring from the field as it was in matches.
“I always tell people that it was an amazing experience … The only thing I can say about MS is how modest is like a human – that he really excelled for me. Outside the field, the time that gives players and people is strange,” said Brevis.
“His door is always open. If he’s asleep, it’s the only time he is closed. I often found myself in my room, just sitting there, talking about cricket or his hobbies. Everyone knows what he does in the field and training, but he is just as inspiring outside the field.
Brevis was signed as a compensation for Gurjapneet Singh injuries and quickly became a yellow brand. During six games he accumulated 225 runs on average 37.50 and a strike rate of 180, Providing the middle order of CSK with much needed pulse. Although Super Kings ended with only four wins and first completed the bottom of the table, the Brevis performance excelled in otherwise disappointment.
His success IPL came to the back of the sensational magic in the international cricket. Brevis broke out at the beginning of the year undefeated 125 against Australia in T20i – the fastest century when South African in format – Knock that ejected him in the ICC ranking And he strengthened his place as one of the brightest young stars in the world cricket.
For Brevis, 2025 was a defining year. Among the record international performances and the possibility to learn directly from Dhoni and Stephen Fleming at CSK, 21-year-old says that experience has strengthened his hunger to improve at the highest level.
