
MEP for Mysur Yadveer Krishhnadatt Chamaraja Wadiyar called on the Union government to establish a specialized sports academy for indigenous Mysuru-Kodag games in Karnataceka, emphasizing the need to preserve and promote traditional sports practices.
Raising The Matter Under Rule 377 in Parliament, Mr. Yadveer Said Mysuru and Kodagu Have A Rich Sporting Heritage Ranging From Vajra Musti Wrestling and Mallakhamba in Mysuru to the Globally Renowned Hockey Trudition of Kodag, Along with Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, and Yoga-Based Fitness Cultural Fabric of Region.
“These sports are not only part of our history, but also an integral part of our identity and life in the community,” he added.
He pointed out that the absence of structured training facilities, scientific coaching and devoted infrastructure has led to these native sports to a constant decline in youth. He said that the establishment of specialized sports academies with modern infrastructure, trained coaches and talent identification programs would help revive these traditions, educate local talents and prepare athletes for national and international competitions.
“I call on the Ministry for Youth Affairs and Sports to immediately sanction and set up the Regional Sports Academy in Mysore and Kodag, which devoted themselves to the native games, integrated them into the Khelo India framework and ensured permanent financing and promotion,” Mr. Yadveer said.
