Kodikunil Suresh, a deputy, wrote to the district collector Alex Varghese and demanded immediate steps to release flood waters from flooded places in Kuttanad, including Kainakara, Champakula and Velianad.
Mr. Suresh said on Sunday that residents face difficulty, including flooded houses, limited mobility, worsening of hygiene and increasing health risks.
He called on the District Administration to deploy mobile and stationary pumps in the affected regions to draw flood water and mobilize the teams to disasters and public health without delay.
MP Mavelikara expressed concern about the reported delay at the start of pumping operations as a result of administrative and financial restrictions. “Kuttanad residents should not be left to suffer due to procedural narrow means. The district administration should act quickly and ensure that the flood waters are immediately exhausted,” Suresh said.
