Rajamahendravaram Member of Parliament D. Purandeswari on Wednesday appealed to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to provide alternative road access to farmers before the construction of a boundary wall on railway land in Kovvur and Chagallu mandals of East Godavari district.
Farmers’ troubles
Ms. Purandeswari met Mr. Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Wednesday and explained to them the difficulties that farmers will face in accessing their fields located along the railway border for agricultural activities and transportation of their agricultural produce.
“The current proposal to build a border wall without an alternative approach will seriously disrupt agricultural activities and affect the livelihood of a large number of small and marginal farmers in the East Godavari region,” Ms. Purandeswari said.
The railway authorities have demarcated the boundary between km 564/42 to km 568/24 on the Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam 6 railway line for the construction of the boundary wall.
A new survey was sought
On her behalf, Ms. Purandeswari requested for a ground level inspection and a fresh survey of the land and railway boundary as the proposed boundary falls within the land belonging to local farmers within the demarcated boundary. Ms. Purandeswari pointed out that access from Pasivedala villages of Kovvur mandal and Gowripalli of Chagallu mandal would be cut if the border was constructed by the railway authorities.
