(Bloomberg) – Hundreds of members of the Haitian community in Brooklyn joined the leaders of the enterprises, politicians and family of the guardian Aland Etienne in the sadness of their death in the last month at the office building in New York.
“What happened in New York was pointless,” his brother Gathmand Etienne said, standing next to his coffin at his funeral. “It took a man who had to give so much.”
Etienne, 46, was one of the four people killed 28. After being shot, Etienne tried to crawl on a panel that controls the elevators, but collapsed before he could get there.
Killing was reflected through New York, from the meeting rooms of the Glass Tower to the Haitian enclave Etienne in Flatbush, and upset the company tenants of the 44-sewn office tower, the Home of Blackstone Inc., KPMG LLP and Rudin Management Co. The building also houses NFL offices. Tamura was angry with the brain injury related to football.
Tamura was also shot and killed by police officer didarula Islam and head of Blackstone Real Estate Wesley Lepatner before climbing to the elevator to the 33th floor and killed employees Rudina Julia Hyman. Then he shot himself.
Etienne was a “New York hero”, said Manny Pastreich, President of the local 32BJ from the International Service Union, more than 350 mourning.
“We honor and recognize Aland’s heroism,” he said. “His last moments were focused on saving others.”
The shock from the shooting was felt far beyond the Avenue Park. In the Bronx, hundreds of uniformed officers from almost every district gathered in a commemorative service for Islam officer, while the central synagogue in Midtown was mourned by Lepatner. Each ceremony reflected different communities connected by violence.
The city officials participated in the Saturday funeral, including the preschool performance of the mayor Eric Adams and the American deputy Hake Jeffries, the house of a democratic leader. Bill Rudin and other members of the Rudin family, who own the building, sat in the crowd. Likewise, the democratic mayor of Zohran Mamdani nominated.
