The project wing of the Ministry of State motorways will introduce the construction of a new bridge over Koraiyar on Madurai Main Road in the city in the next few months.
The project was announced by the Minister of Motorways in the Legislative Assembly during the recent discussion of grants at the Ministry.
The path that passes through Crawford and Edamalaipattipudur from Kallukuzhi near the railway junction is one of the main access roads to the integrated bus terminal (IBT) in Panjapur, which is expected to be open soon.
Although the Ministry of the Motorway (NH Wing) expanded last year part of the road between Panjapur and Edamalaipattipudur, a narrow bridge across the river in the section of the section is just to be rebuilt. The NH wing expanded the section of the road to estimate 17 CRORE GBP sanctioned from the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) 2023-24.
However, the reconstruction of the bridge and the extension of access on both sides was entrusted with the project wing of the department.
The city’s inhabitants hoped that the district authorities take steps to expand the narrow bridge over the Karaiyar to provide an alternative approach to IBT, located outside the National Motorway Tiruchi-Madurai. A narrow bridge, which could barely conceive two -way traffic, could appear as the main obstacle, if it is not created, was emphasized.
The sources in the department said that the bridge construction is taking place. As soon as the government order has been issued, the bid procedure process will begin. The existing bridge will be demolished and a new four -lane bridge will be built. The soil acquisition has been completed to extend the access.
Although it was a relatively small bridge and was expected to be completed within one year, because the flow of water during the monsoon season had to be taken into account, the sources said.
