A 37-year-old motorist died on Friday after a truck overturned and fell on him on Bynapalli Koot Road near Natrampalli town in Tirupattur.
The police arrested the owner of the truck S. Navamani (48) and its driver K. Rangasamy (28). The deceased was identified as A. Suresh, a mason of Byanapalli village.
Initial investigation revealed that a special team of the Natrampalli police, patrolling the area on a tip-off, tried to stop Rangasamy, who was driving a truck loaded with illegally mined sand. But he gave the team a slip by speeding away in the vehicle. Police said Rangasamy lost control of the vehicle which overturned and fell on Suresh. He was crushed to death. The incident happened around 11 o’clock
The body was sent to Government Taluk Hospital in Tirupattur for post-mortem. A case has been registered. The arrested were lodged in Tirupattur Sub-jail. A probe is underway.
