After India’s ODI series win against South Africa, one moment caught the attention of the fans. Yashasvi Jaiswal, fresh off his maiden ODI hundred in India’s nine-wicket win in Vizag, cut the cake of celebration. Virat Kohli joined in but Rohit Sharma refused and joked that he would get fat. His decision reflected a focus on larger goals and a commitment that goes beyond celebration.
Rohit’s physical transformation has become a major talking point this year. Ahead of the Australian tour and his recent return to ODIs, he underwent an intensive fitness program under former assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. Over the past few months he lost around 10 kilograms with a demanding routine: grueling gym workouts involving 700-800 reps per body part along with crossfit and cardio six days a week. He also revised his diet, giving up indulgences like Mumbai’s beloved vada pav.
The results were evident. Teammates and fans noticed his leaner and more athletic figure. With improved mobility and stamina, Rohit’s transformation is seen not only as cosmetic, but as a serious effort to prolong his career at the highest level and meet the physical demands of modern international cricket.
After India’s victory in Vizag, the team celebrated by cutting the victory cake at a hotel. When Jaiswal went to feed the cake to Rohit Sharma, Rohit said “nahi bhai, me Mota ho jauga vapas”

ROHIT SHARMA IN EXCELLENT FORM
Rohit has been in great touch since his return to ODI cricket in the 2025 Australia series. After a modest first outing, he made 73 off 97 balls in the second ODI in Adelaide, became the first Indian batsman to cross 1000 ODI runs in Australia. He followed that up by commanding an unbeaten 121 in Sydney as India chased down 237 to win by nine wickets.
He carried that form into the home series against South Africa. He scored a fluent half-century — his 60th in the format — in the first ODI in Ranchi. In the crucial third ODI at Visakhapatnam, he put together a 75 off 73 balls that anchored a strong opening stand that steered India to clinch the series.
In both series, Rohit has shown consistency, composure and authority, which has reinforced his importance as a top-order top-order batter.
