
It will intensify efforts to identify immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar illegally residing in ODISha, and the Jharsugud District Administration recently rounded 444 suspicious foreigners, the officials said.
“We brought 444 suspicious foreigners to the center, where their identity verification is carried out according to the instructions issued by the Ministry of the Interior (MHA) and the Odisha government,” said Parmar Smit Parshottamdas on Tuesday.
“These people worked mainly in the building sector, while some joined the mining sector. All 444 of them are men,” said SP.
Officials said the police also detained four Bangladesh nationals in the port city of Paradip and their verification process was completed.
In May, the MHA set a 30 -day deadline for all countries and trade unions to verify the identity and documentation of individuals suspected of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar. Those who cannot submit valid documents would be responsible for deportation, the officials said.
It also ordered the states to provoke their legal powers to detect, detention and deportation of illegal immigrants.
According to the MHA directives, Odisha has set up a special working group in each district consisting of officers from various departments.
