More than 2,500 Guarantee Committee members to be appointed in Mandya district soon: Dinesh Gooligowda

A total of 2,538 guarantee committee members will soon be appointed in Mandya district to ensure that five guarantee schemes of the state government reach the eligible beneficiaries, said State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority Deputy Chairman Dinesh Gooligowda.

Gooligowda, who is also an MLC, said the state government has already constituted district and taluk level guarantee committees.

As Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has directed that six members of the Guarantee Committee be appointed for each ward or panchayat in the Municipal Municipal Councils (CMC), Municipal Municipal Councils (TMC), Town Panchayats and Gram Panchayats, the district and taluk committee members have been asked to discuss the matter with the Minister in-charge of the area, N. Cheluvarayas, to prepare and prepare the list of members soon.

In a statement here, Gooligowda said a total of 423 guarantee committees – two CMCs covering 66 wards, six TMCs covering 115 wards, one Town Panchayat with 13 wards and 229 gram panchayats – will be formed across the district.

Each committee has six members and he said a total of 2,538 members would need to be appointed across 423 committees.

“Each committee will have one representative each from SC/ST, Minorities, Backward Classes and General Category, apart from two women. In the absence of a minority representative, a member from the General Category may be appointed,” he said.

The committees are being formed to effectively monitor the implementation of the guarantee programs at the local level, identify problems faced by the beneficiaries and report them to the concerned departments for resolution, he said, adding that the committees should ensure that no eligible person is deprived of the benefits of the programmes.

The appointment of these 2,538 members will be in addition to the existing 119 members in the district and taluk-level committees — the district committee has 21 members, while the taluk committees together have 14 members each.

With the appointment of guarantee committee members in local bodies, the total number of committee members in Mandya district will rise to 2,657.

“This will ensure that the benefits of the guarantee schemes reach every eligible family and that no eligible beneficiary is deprived of these schemes,” Gooligowda said.
