More than 2,200 policemen drafted for election duty in Tirupati in five municipal bodies

The police department has drafted 2,202 constables for election duty in five urban local bodies in Tirupati district going to polls on Sunday.

The lion’s share of the deployment goes to the Tirupati Municipal Corporation, while the rest is allocated to the towns of Puttur, Naidupeta, Sullurpeta and Venkatagiri.

This number includes an additional superintendent of police, eight deputy superintendents, 26 circle inspectors and 98 sub-inspectors.

“A rapid response team will be waiting to deal with emergency situations in sensitive, violence-prone polling stations,” said Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu, who urged the public to cast their votes without fear.

Those who tried to disrupt the election process or disturb the peace in the designated areas around the polling stations would face legal action, he warned.
