India’s largest airline operator IndiGo has seen more than 1,200 flight cancellations in the month of November due to crew shortage, Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL), airspace restrictions, among others, news agency ANI reported citing the Civil Aviation Ministry.
According to data cited in the agency’s report, Indigo canceled a total of 1,232 flights in November 2025 and 755 of the total were due to crew restrictions and FDTL.
The data further showed that 92 out of 1,232 flights were canceled due to ATC system failure, while 258 flights were canceled due to airport or airspace related restrictions. The remaining 127 flights were canceled for other reasons, according to the data.
“A large proportion of cancellations were due to crew/FDTL compliance and airport/airspace/ATC related factors, many of which are beyond the operator’s direct control,” the civil aviation ministry said, referring to IndiGo.
IndiGo’s on-time performance (OTP) for the month of November 2025 was 67.70% compared to the previous level of 84.1% in October 2025. On-time performance is a metric that shows delays in operations in an airline.
What caused the flight to be delayed?
According to a Civil Aviation Ministry report, cited in the agency’s report, IndiGo’s delay in flight operations was mainly due to ATC issues and other operational reasons.
ATC issues at 16%, Operations-Crew at 6%, airport facility issues at 3% and other operational reasons were the main contributors to airline delays.
What is IndiGo up to?
IndiGo has informed the aviation ministry that the airline plans to strengthen scheduling and crew schedules in line with FDTL (Flight Duty Time Limitations) norms, according to a report cited by the news agency.
The airline also said it plans to improve its coordination with air traffic control (ATC) and airport operations to cope with capacity constraints.
The company also plans to improve turnaround times and disruption management processes to reduce delays. Turnaround time in aviation is the total time required to service an aircraft and ensure its compliance before the flight departs for the next operational route.
IndiGo apologized to its passengers for the inconvenience caused by the delay and cancellation and advised its passengers to check their flight status before traveling to the airport.
“We apologize for the inconvenience caused to passengers. Passengers are advised to check flight status through official channels before departure,” IndiGo said, according to a ministry statement.
