The National Archive of India (NAI) digitized more than 10 crore pages of historical documents.
The Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Minister of the Union’s Minister of Culture said the digitization project has been launched to create historical documents in Nai more accessible to the public.
“Survive our famous past, which has been digitally documented one page at the same time, with this mega an effort to bring Bharat’s archive heritage closer to the public than ever,” he said.

In the X post, Mr. Shekhawat shared data on Abhilekh Patal, the digital depository of the National Archive of India (Nai). He said the portal has 1,49,487 unique visitors, 2,70,772 websites and 29,507 registered users.
“Ten pages of Crore history are now at your fingertips! It gives me a lot of pleasure to share it since May 4, 2025, #Nationalarchivesofindia has crossed 10 Crore digitized pages of historical documents available to #abhilekhpatal,” said trade union Minister.
Nai is an attached office under the Ministry of Culture. It was founded in 1891 as an imperial record department in Calcutta (now Kolkata). After the transfer of capital from Calcutta to Delhi in 1911, the current Nai building was built in 1926 designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens.
The transfer of all records from Calcutta to Nový Delhi was completed in 1937. It is a caretaker of non-general records of the Indian government and holds them in confidence in the use of administrators and researchers.
In addition to its extensive collection of public records, Nai is also a rich and ever -growing collection of private papers of important Indians from all areas of life who have contributed significantly to the nation.
