
Several key facilities at Kottayam Medical College Hospital, including a surgical block, medical hostel, cath lab, biogas station, renovated dispensary and lactation unit, are ready for inauguration, Medical College Superintendent TK Jayakumar said.
The superintendent informed this at a meeting convened by Ports Minister VN Vasavan on Saturday to review the progress of various construction works going on at the hospital. Health and Women and Child Development Minister Veena George, Additional Principal Secretary (Health) Rajan Khobragade and Director of Medical Education KV Vishwanathan attended the meeting held at the Medical College conference hall online.
Construction of cardiology and surgery block completed, both included in KIIFB project. In addition to the existing seven operating theaters, seven others are now fully functional.
In a meeting, Health Minister Veena George directed officials to look into the possibility of imposing penalties on contractors for not completing the construction of the super-special unit within the stipulated time frame.
The Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (Buildings) informed the meeting that the construction of the building for the Infectious Diseases Treatment Department has reached 60% completion and is expected to be completed by February.
The Minister of Health also ordered that the steps to demolish the EFG block, which has been unused for a long time, be accelerated.
Mr. Vasavan directed that a special meeting be convened in the presence of the Electricity Minister and KIIFB representatives to discuss the construction of 110kV substation to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the hospital.
