Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released emails Wednesday (Nov. 12) that show convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein making multiple references to President Donald Trump, intensifying scrutiny of Trump’s alleged connection to Epstein’s activities. And California Rep. Robert Garcia, a Democrat on the committee, told MSNBC that more documents are expected to be released soon.
Garcia criticizes Trump for alleged cover-up
“We want to know why Donald Trump said throughout the campaign that he was going to release the files, and now that he’s in the White House, there’s a massive cover-up,” Garcia said. “Survivors deserve the truth.”
Garcia confirmed that the committee recently received a total of about 23,000 documents from Epstein’s estate and is reviewing them for possible release. “We’re going through them as quickly as we can to see what we can release,” he added.
The emails raise questions about Trump
The publicly released documents include emails from Epstein to longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell and author Michael Wolff.
One 2019 email to Wolff said: “He obviously knew about the girls when he asked Ghislaine to stop.” Another email from 2011 reportedly says Trump spent “hours at my house” with one of Epstein’s victims.
“There is communication between Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell that apparently alleges that Donald Trump is spending significant time, hours, possibly with one of the victims,” Garcia said. “There are also disturbing emails about Trump and Jeffrey Epstein that people can read for themselves.”
Call the DOJ to release the entire files
Garcia urged the Justice Department to release all files in its possession related to Epstein. “And so we will not rest until we get the truth about the full files and what powerful men committed terrible acts against these women and in some cases children and girls at the time,” he said.
Legislative action is awaited
The revelation comes as the House prepares to swear in Democrat Adelita Grijalva of Arizona. Her vote is expected to provide the final signature needed to force a vote on legislation that would release all Justice Department records related to the Epstein investigation.
