The historic Venugopala Swamy temple at Moolapet in Nellore district is being renovated at a cost of ₹ 16.7 crore. The work was started under the supervision of Tridandi Srimannarayana Chinna Jeeyar six months ago.
Ministers Ponguru Narayana (Municipal Administration and Urban Development) and Anam Ramanarayana Reddy (Endowments) reached the temple on Sunday and discussed the steps to be taken to ensure its planned development.
The ministers reviewed the building models and designs and gave instructions to the foundation authorities. Apart from the main temple, the foundation stone of the Lord Narasimha temple has already been laid. The four “mada streets” around the temple will be widened and modified to accommodate the processions and cope with the growing influx of pilgrims.
“The temple will be ready and open for devotees in the next 18 months,” the two ministers said.
Nellore Mayor-in-Charge P. Roopkumar Yadav, Commissioner YO Nandan, former Municipal Vice-Chairman Tallapaka Anuradha and Municipal TDP President M. Madhu were present.
