
In the second semifinal Montreal Open 2025 on Thursday, August 7, Ben Shelton released around Taylor Fritz to create a final clash with Karen Khanov. Shelton defeated his colleague’s countryman in direct setch 6-4, 6-3 to become the youngest American who achieved the final of the ATP Masters 1000 by Andy Roddick in Toronto in 2004, in the final.
Shelton, 22, will play his first ATP MASTERS 1000 final when he takes Khachanov. After his dominant victory, Shelton revealed that he was pleased with the great improvements he had done in his game recently.
“It is a level for me – 100%. I’m just looking for things in my game to get better, and this week I have seen so many great improvements. So, that’s what I’m most happy all about – the way I play, how little I hesitate,” Shelton said.
In the first semifinal Karen Khachanov amazed the highest seed of Alexander Zverev and defeated it in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4). Khachanov saved the match point to achieve his second ATP Masters 1000, with the previous arrival in Paris in 2018, where he disrupted Novak Djokovic. It was the first victory for Russs against the triple Grand Slam runner after he lost the last three meetings.
After an exhausting three -hour accessory, Khachanov admitted that he had to dig deep to lift the game to stun the Zvereva.
“I had to dig deep and raise my level. It was a very challenging, very mental, very physical match. So I’m very happy to win a victory after I lost some easy in recent years.
