Monthly release of funds for social school

HYDERABAD

In a move that should significantly improve the overall academic environment in gurukul and residential schools, the state government has shifted from quarterly to monthly release of funds. The move was also announced in the 2026-27 budget.

This will streamline the release of funds for per diem, cosmetic expenses and building leases for institutions run by Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Backward Classes (BC) and Minorities and Education Departments.

The aim of the decision is to improve living and educational conditions for students from disadvantaged areas. Earlier, payments were delayed by 8-9 months, affecting the functioning of hostels and schools.

Officials said the timely flow of funds would ensure continuous supply of nutritious food, maintenance of hostel facilities, payment of rents and provision of basic amenities. The measure is expected to improve student achievement and academic achievement.

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthen the residential education system and provide quality facilities to students from marginalized communities.

As of 17 May, the government has released ₹221.24 crore for expenditure on food, cosmetics and rent across ministries.

Department-wise allocations are: SC Welfare – ₹ 41.21 crore, ST Welfare – ₹ 110.15 crore, BC Welfare – ₹ 28.18 crore, Minority Welfare – ₹ 29.65 crore and Education Department – ₹ 12.05 crore
