‘Monsoon holiday’ for sand collection begins on June 1 along the Godavari river
The annual ban on mining and sand collection will come into effect along the banks of the Godavari river from Monday as part of the ‘monsoon holidays’ as prescribed by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC).
“Sand mining and collection will be banned on semi-mechanized and patta lands from Monday (June 1) as part of the ‘monsoon holiday’ for sand collection. The ban will continue till October 15,” Deputy Director of Mines and Geology D. Phanibhushan Reddy said in a release.
Meanwhile, East Godavari district authorities have stockpiled 14.57 million tonnes of Godavari sand for supply in 43 areas including Kovvur, Peravali, Nidadavolu, Sithanagaram, Rajamahendravaram and Tallapudi in East Godavari district.
From June 1, the Ministry of Mines and Geology, Revenue, Water Resources Department and the police will monitor the illegal collection and transportation of sand.
