Deputy Commissioner Mandy Kumar on Wednesday emphasized the importance of diversification of crop cultivation to maintain soil fertility and improve the revenue of farmers.
At the Technical Convention on a silk farmer organized by the Ministry of the Mandya Zilla series Panchayat, he encouraged farmers to consider the series (silk agriculture) along with traditional crops, such as unpeeled and sugar cane.
Dr. Kumar emphasized the commercial viability of silk breeding and said: “Sericulture is a profitable enterprise. Integration with conventional crops can increase their income.”
He noted that monocultural practices, such as continuous cultivation of one crop, gradually reduce soil fertility and emphasize the need to promote and receive alternative crops.
“Farmers are not poor and do not need compassion. They need to seize through technical knowledge and confidence,” the deputy Commissioner added.
He created a parallel between farmers and soldiers and said, “Like soldiers guarding the boundaries of the nation, farmers serve the country by providing food. Farmers equal to soldiers and rich in generosity.”
Commissioner and Director for the Development of the Rajesh Gowda series noted that Mandya is one of the districts with the highest number of farmers in Kareni. He pointed out that if properly supported, silk agriculture could become a highly lucrative company for the agricultural community in the region.
The progressive silk farmer Nagaraju CL from Kola has done a technical meeting on proven procedures in the series, including breeding of mulberry, optimization of space, control of cocoon and techniques of pest control and disease control.
