Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will trade Indian pacer Mohammed Shami to Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the start of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. SRH acquired the services of the 35-year-old pacer for Rs 10 crore in last year’s mega auction. However, Shami failed to live up to his reputation throughout the season.
Shami appeared in nine matches for SRH, taking just six wickets while conceding an economy of 11.23. He also registered the most expensive bowling figures for an Indian in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), he conceded an incredible 75 runs from his four overs during the 27th match at Hyderabad. Shami’s figures were also the second most expensive bowling figures in IPL history after Jofra Archer’s figures of 0/76 against SRH in the same season.
After a forgettable season, he will be traded to LSG for the upcoming season. The deadline to submit a list of players that franchises want to release from their roster is November 15.
“Both the franchises have agreed to the trade,” a source familiar with the matter told PTI.
After spearheading India’s pace, Shami also couldn’t make it to the national team due to fitness issues. He last played for the ‘Men in Blue’ in the Champions Trophy final this March.
Meanwhile, Shami has missed the fourth round of the ongoing Ranji Trophy, bwas impressive for Bengal in the first three matches, bowling 93 overs and taking 15 wickets averaged 15.13 with best figures of 5/38. He last played Test cricket in 2023, during the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final against Australia. The fast bowler looks at odds with the Test team with the selectors looking after a new batch of fast bowlers.
