Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu took a sharp dig at Pakistan pacer Mohammed Amir after India booked their place in the T20 World Cup final. Sidhu referred to Amir as “Dhongi Babu”, mocking the former fast bowler’s predictions of India crashing out of the tournament.
The comments came later India beat England by seven runs in the semi-final in Mumbai set up a title fight with New Zealand. In a video posted on Instagram, Sidhu criticized Amir’s repeated predictions that India will fail to advance in the tournament.

“People around us have a habit of making false predictions. If it comes true, fine; if it doesn’t, they just brush it off. If it works, they call it an arrow; if it doesn’t, they say it was just a guess. And yet they continue to act like some wise-ass.”
“Honestly, I think people like that are just bogus. First they said India won’t even qualify, won’t reach the semi-finals. They said West Indies and South Africa would advance. But the moment Sanju Samson came back, both teams sent packing. And today they said England would win the semi-final and England were also out.”
“I mean, predictions don’t decide these things. Matches are decided on the battlefield. You don’t earn a throne by begging. Empty vessels make the most noise. That’s the whole point.”
WHAT AMIR PREDICTED FOR IND VS ENG
Mohammed Amir had earlier predicted that India would struggle to reach the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup and later backed England to beat India in the last four in Mumbai.
After India’s win, Amir stuck to his stance and suggested that England had let the match slip because of a dropped key.
“I am talking about cricket. India played very good and complete cricket in this match throughout the tournament. We have to give credit where credit is due. I made a good prediction but dropping the catch, that is not in my hands. If you drop the catch of an in-form batsman, this is what happens,” Amir said.
“The only difference between the two teams was Bumrah. Had Harry Brook caught Samson, that target would have been chased down by England with a shootout,” he added.
HOW INDIA QUALIFIED FOR WORLD T20 FINAL
India produced one of the most thrilling matches of the tournament to secure their place in the final.
After being asked to bat first, India posted 253/7, the highest total recorded in a T20 World Cup knockout match. Sanju Samson led the charge with a sensational 89 off 42 balls, smashing eight fours and seven sixes.
England nearly pulled off a historic run chase, Jacob Bethell scoring a blistering 105 off 48 balls. However, India held their nerve in the final overs.
Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliant death bowling proved decisive as England finished on 246/7 for the loss of just seven runs to send India into the final against New Zealand.
