
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his latest Mann Ki Baat address stressed the importance of water protection efforts on Sunday and urged citizens to prepare for the summer by contributing to the ongoing “Catch the Rain” campaign.
Modi stressed that he emphasized the achievements of the whole country during the 120. The issue of the radio address, and stressed that the water protection movement is not only a government initiative, but a collective effort to ensure natural resources for future generations.

“Thousands of artificial ponds, dams of dams, borehole recharging and community soaking are being built in the country,” he said.
“By canning rain drops, we can save a lot of water from unnecessary waste,” Modi said, adding that over the last 7-8 years, more than 11 billion cubic meters of water have been maintained through newly built reservoirs, ponds and other water replenishment structures.
To put it in the perspective, he compared it with the Govind Sagar Lake, created by the Bhakra Nangal dam, holding about 9-10 billion cubic meters of water.

The Catch the Rain campaign, implemented in 2020, throws states and all parties involved to create rainwater collection structures (RWHS).
Community to lead
Modi praised the efforts of people in the Gadag district in Karnataka, where the villagers revived two dry lakes that outperformed weeds and shrubs.
“There was a time when no water was left to drink animals,” he said, adding that the leadership was taken by the villagers to clean the lake, which soon brought the support of local social organizations.
“Now they are eagerly waiting for the rain,” he said, calling it a brilliant example of what the community spirit can achieve.
Fitness and recycling of textiles
Modi, who praised the performance of athletes at the recently organized Khelo India Para games, emphasized the participation of a record number of athletes and the creation of 18 national records, of which 12 were achieved by female athletes.
Meanwhile, Modi raised concerns about the growing textile waste challenge and noted that India was third in the worldwide stay in the creation of textile waste.
He appreciated Indian startups and cities such as Panipat, Bengaluru and Tirupur for a pioneing innovative solution in recycling of textiles and waste management.

“Panipat in Haryana appears as a global recycling center. Bengaluru also creates a clear identity with innovative technological solutions,” he said.
“More than half of the textile waste is collected here, which is an example for our other cities. Similarly, Tirupur in Tamil Nadu is engaged in the management of textile waste through wastewater treatment and renewable energy,” he added.
The Prime Minister also celebrated the Indian cultural connection abroad and emphasized his interactions with communities on Mauritius, Guyana and Fiji, where Indian festivals and traditions are still prospering.
He also applauded organizations such as the Singapore Indian Society for Fine Arts, for maintaining Indian art and culture around the world.
