Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to travel to Rio de Janeiro next month to participate in the BRICS summit, the sources said. The collection is carefully monitored by the American Trump administration, which considers it a counterweight to a group of developed nations G-7. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as leaders of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Egypt and Indonesia, are expected to attend.
Mr. Modi’s participation in the event comes soon after a four -day conflict with Pakistan and the Indian “new normal” in the fight against terror. Any joint statement of cross -border terrorism from a predominantly economic grouping will be important to India, the officials said. Any encounter with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which Modi last met on the edge of the previous BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia in October 2024, will also be observed with interest, given Chinese support Pakistan during Sindoor and in June plans to reset bilateral ties with Kailash Mansarovar Yatrou.

“Friction of the US badly”
In addition, BRICS discussions about the use of alternative or national currencies for trade are likely to bring reactions in the US, given the last few months by US President Donald Trump against any “de-devellarizing” plan BRICS and at the beginning of this week, Minister of American trade, Lutnice, said that Indian participation in Washington.
On Tuesday, Mr Lutnick said on Tuesday that, in addition to buying military hardware from Russia, India “wiped the US badly” by being part of BRICS. “(BRICS countries) They say,” Let’s not support the dollar and the hegemony of the dollar … “This is not a way to win friends and influence people in America,” he added.

‘Rio reset’
BRICS-11-including the original members of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa and the new participants of Saudi Arabia, Sae, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and Indonesia-Neni represent half of the world population and 39% of global GDP. On the other hand, G-7-rusting Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, along with the European Union, are about 30% of the world’s GDP.
Think-tanks based in Washington invoice the BRICS meeting grouped “Rio reset”, suggesting that it will represent a challenge for Western economies. According to the comment on the concept of the Brazilian Presidency, this year’s BRICS Summit will be the motto of this year’s BRICS: “Strengthening cooperation in the global South for more inclusive and sustainable administration”.

No match of alternative currency
The note states that the summit will discuss how to reform institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Trade Organization (WTO), “to increase the representation of developing countries in leaders” and reflect the contributions of the global south to the world economy. In particular, it focuses on developing initiatives such as the new development bank and emergency reserve arrangements, but does not mention the use of alternative currencies.
In March this year, the Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar explained that India had no policy to try to replace the dollar, and even stated that there was no “united BRICS”. Mr. Jaishankar is expected to travel to Washington just before the BRICS summit to attend a meeting of Foreign Foreign Ministers organized by US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio 1 July. India and the US also want to announce the first part of the bilateral trade agreement before 9 July, which is the term Trump’s administration to impose reciprocal tariffs.

Special invitations
The BRICS Summit on 6 and 7 July will also follow two weeks after the G-7 Summit in Kanaskis, Canada, where the newly elected Prime Minister Mike Carney has not yet invited Mr. Modi as a special invitation, although other nations such as Brazil, South Africa and Mexico were. Sources said formal invitations to special invitations will be sent this weekend.
In the last two decades, India has been invited to G-7 and G-8 events on many previous occasions and Mr. Modi has participated in each G-7 summit since 2019.
