Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) announced that the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) will set up its first campus in Indonesia, describing the initiative as a major step to strengthen educational ties and benefit students across the ASEAN region.

The announcement was made during Mr. Modi’s visit to Indonesia in a joint press statement with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The proposed campus will be set up in the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Malang and is aimed at advancing the internationalization of India’s higher education ecosystem.

The campus will offer programs focused on emerging areas such as global supply chains, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, climate and sustainability, and healthcare management. The curriculum will also include interactions with industry leaders, distinguished academics and global experts.

The project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will begin with training programs for executives, managers and public sector professionals. The second phase, assuming successful implementation in the first two years, will introduce degree management programs.

The initiative will be implemented through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IIM Bangalore and PT Intelegensia Grahatama (PT IGT), the management and development entity of Singhasari SEZ.
