The overall air quality index (AQI) was in the ‘moderate’ category in Kochi around 12:00 pm on Tuesday (21 October 2025).
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the overall air quality rating of ‘moderate’ indicated that the air quality is acceptable to most people. However, it can cause minor breathing difficulties in individuals with lung conditions such as asthma and discomfort in people with heart disease, children and older adults.
The overall AQI value in Kochi was 83, according to data available under the Air Quality Index (AQI) tracker on Google Maps.
The industrial area of Udyogmandal recorded an overall aqi value of 90, while the corresponding value in Vyttil was 88. In Kathrikadav, the Aqi value was 82, while that in Kacheripady was
The average AQI increased slightly on Tuesday compared to Monday (October 20, 2025). The overall AQI in Kochi was 76 on Monday.
Kochi was among the cities that did not figure in the AQI data provided by the CPCB “due to insufficient data”.
According to Kerala State Pollution Control Board officials, data was not available for Kochi as the Continuous Air Quality Monitoring Station (CAAQMS) at Vyttila and the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kaloor, remain non-functional.
The systems stopped working almost a year ago because the operator’s one-year maintenance contract expired. The process to renew the one-year contract has begun, they said.
