Mobile phones seized again in Kannur Central Jail

A mobile phone with a SIM card was seized from an inmate at Pallikkunnu Central Jail, marking the second such recovery from the jail in a matter of days.

The phone was recovered from Utham Patra, a native of Odisha, who is serving a sentence in a narcotics case.

During the inspection, the prison authorities found the handset hidden in the fourth block of the prison. Based on a complaint filed by the jail superintendent, the Kannur city police registered a case and started an investigation into the incident.

The latest seizure comes just days after another mobile phone was recovered from the prison.
