MMK slams Center for rejecting Metro Rail project proposals for Coimbatore, Madurai
The Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) on Sunday slammed the Union government for recently rejecting the Tamil Nadu government’s proposals for metro projects in Coimbatore and Madurai for the second time.
In a statement, party general secretary P. Abdul Samad said the Centre’s rejection of the Tamil Nadu government’s proposal was a deliberate attempt to stall the state’s growth. He argued that the move was against the spirit of cooperative federalism.
Mr. Samad also questioned the Union government’s reason for not applying the same population criterion while giving approval for metro projects in other states.
