In Maharashtra, the ruling Mahayuti won two seats in the Legislative Council elections. The results for two of the five teacher and graduate constituencies in the state were officially declared by the Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra late on Wednesday night (October 28, 2026). The Bharatiya Janata Party won the Pune Teachers’ Constituency, while the Shiv Sena won the Amravati Teachers’ Constituency.

Counting for the remaining three seats took place for the second consecutive day on Wednesday (October 28, 2026). The result for Pune Graduates third constituency seat was expected to be declared late on Wednesday night (October 28, 2026). Sharadchandra Pawar’s NCP group was leading in the seat till this report went to print.

Meanwhile, the election turned out to be a major setback for the ruling NCP, which could not open its account. The dismal trend and lead taken by the NCP SP in the only seat allotted to the NCP has irked senior leader Praful Patel. “Today’s Vidhan Parishad election results serve as a definitive wake-up call. The time has come for an urgent introspection to rebuild trust, refocus our priorities and fix our organizational structure,” he wrote on his X social media link. He had earlier expressed displeasure over the party being denied the Pune seat during seat-sharing talks with allies.

Mahayuti VS Mahayuti in Pune

The teachers’ constituency in Pune drew the state’s attention to the fight between the Mahayuti partners. The seat was Congress, which lost the battle between the two alliance partners. During the seat-sharing talks, the seat was officially awarded to the BJP and the Shiv Sena supported another candidate. On Wednesday (October 28, 2026), BJP candidate Kaustubh Gawade defeated Shiv Sena-backed Sachin Sanap candidate and Congress MLC Jayant Asagaonkar. Mr. Sanap was the OSD of Sena Minister Uday Samant.

Sena wins Amravati despite internal strife

Shiv Sena’s Kiran Ramrao Sarnaik won the Amravati teachers’ constituency for the second time, despite infighting and rebellion in Mahayuti. He defeated Aditi Pohare of Congress and independent candidate Shrikant Deshpande. In Amravati teachers constituency, BJP and Shiv Sena have traditionally fought against each other. After the seat was claimed by the Shiv Sena in seat-sharing talks, some BJP leaders rebelled. Three BJP rebels filed nomination as independents. The party had to expel all three. Then Maharashtra minister and BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule appealed to Eknath Shinde to take action against Sena rebel Shrikant Deshpande. On Wednesday (October 28, 2026), he was defeated by Shiv Sena’s official candidate Mr. Sarnaik.

The counting of the other three seats continued for the second day on Wednesday (October 28, 2026). The results have probably been declared for the third seat of the Pune Graduates constituency, where the NCP SP candidate was leading in the rounds counted so far.
