Hitting back at critics, Mitchell Starc clarified that injury, not lack of determination, has delayed his return to IPL 2026 for Delhi Capitals. The Australian pacer revealed he is recovering from shoulder and elbow problems, the full extent of which did not become apparent until after the Australian summer.
Starc strongly criticized sections of the media for spreading what he called misinformed views about his participation in the IPL. He insisted he remains focused on his rehabilitation and is determined to return to action for DC once he is fully fit, ending speculation surrounding his absence.

“Despite the views and opinions of certain individuals with their platforms in and through the Indian media, I am currently rehabilitating and managing shoulder and elbow injuries, the extent of which I was unaware of during the Australian summer,” Starc said in a statement on Instagram.
“These individuals have made some strong statements about being involved in the IPL and have given heavily misinformed opinions of players, preached them as fact and claimed to know my body better than I do,” Starc said. Courtesy: Mitchell Starc Instagram
Starc apologized to the Capitals and their fans for missing the early part of IPL 2026 but reaffirmed his commitment to the franchise and said he is working hard to make a comeback soon.
“With that being said, I accept that this setback and the timing of the injury is disruptive for the Delhi team and I apologize to the fans for not being available for the start of this season. I remain committed to joining DC, I am in constant communication with the squad and will continue to do my best to be available for DC as soon as possible,” added Starc.
