During the recent Assembly elections, those campaigning in the 37 Assembly constituencies of the Kancheepuram-Tiruvallur-Chennai-Chengalpattu region raised the issue of the delay in the release of the third master plan for the city of Chennai. There has been a demand to fine-tune the plan to make Chennai a future-ready city.
The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) was expected to release the Third Master Plan (TMP) 2026-2047 with the approval of the state government during Pongal 2026. However, the deadline was missed. CMDA officials said they will speed up the work, but there is no new study schedule or revised deadline for the plan.
