Legendary Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu reasserted her authority on the national stage by breaking records at the National Weightlifting Championships in the women’s 48kg category on Wednesday.
Competing in the women’s 48kg category, Chanu lifted a total of 205kg, setting new national records in the snatch, clean and jerk and overall. The effort marked a 6kg improvement on her 2025 World Championships gold lift of 199kg.
Chanu started strong in the snatch, successfully lifting 89kg, breaking the existing national record. She later attempted 91 kg, which would have extended her mark further, but the lift proved unsuccessful. She showed typical poise in the clean and jerk with a clean of 116kg, again improving the national standard.
Her total of 205kg capped off a dominant performance and underlined her consistency at the top level of the sport.
