A five-year-old girl was killed and her younger sister injured after a wall and gate collapsed on them while they were playing outside a house in Dwarakanagar on Friday.
The victim was identified as Gousia, the elder daughter of Imam and Ramiza. According to the police, the incident took place around 7.30 pm when two children were playing near the gate. Officials said the girls had climbed the gate and were standing on it when a three-foot pillar connecting the gate to the wall of the complex suddenly gave way, causing the entire structure to collapse on top of them.
Both children suffered serious head injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital, where Gousia later succumbed to her injuries. Her younger sister Shakila suffered leg injuries and is undergoing treatment. According to the police, her condition is stable.
The family lived in a rented one-bedroom house owned by Ravi Shankar. Ramiza works as a fruit vendor at Chikkabanavara bus stand while her husband Imam is employed elsewhere.
Chikkabanavara police have registered a report of unnatural death. Police said a case of negligence could be filed against the homeowner if the victim’s family files a formal complaint.
