The Congress government aims to ensure water security in the combined Khammam district and an action plan will be prepared to ensure this, said Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy.

In a meeting on Thursday to review the progress of irrigation projects in Khammam combined district, he said that we will focus on completing the ongoing works so that the benefits reach the farmers and people at the earliest. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Uttam Kumar Reddy, Tummala Nageswara Rao, Vakiti Srihari and other elected representatives were present.

He said that the work related to Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project, Sitamma Sagar Multipurpose Project, Munneru-Palair Link Canal will speed up with land acquisitions, ensuring forest clearance and lack of funds addressed in the backdrop of war. Terming Sitarama as a project that could change the future of the Khammam combined district, he said the Munneru-Palair link will not only stabilize the existing ayacut but also create new irrigation potential.

The link canal would be a boon to the farmers of Khammam and Suryapet districts, the minister said, adding that it would draw water by gravity. Once completed, the projects would bring a green revolution in the Khammam combined district, he noted. He said the government is also prioritizing flood control works in Bhadrachalam and Khammam.
