
Minister of Higher Education R. Bindu and Minister of Law P. Rajeeve called on Sunday (August 3, 2025) Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Alelekar to Raj Bhavan as part of the continuing efforts of the State Government to resolve various issues affecting higher education sector.
The discussion, which lasted more than an hour, tried to achieve a consensus about the appointment of Vice -President Chancellors at state universities. Government reconciliation is reportedly followed by the Directive of the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
While the governor called the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education for Interviews, the Chief Minister put ministers to impress the Governor’s obligation to solve problems on the Governor, the sources said.
The discussion was also held against the background of the Supreme Court judgment, which urges the Governor and the State Government to cooperate in the appointment of a regular vice -chairman.
During the meeting, the ministers emphasized the need for decision -making on the cooperative in this process. They also repeated the government’s position that the Directive of the Supreme Court for Management of Cooperation on University Affairs must be followed in spirit and practice.

They also learned that they were concerned about the recent appointment of temporary Vice -Rectors at the Keral (DUK) and APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) and claims that the appointment did not follow the Supreme Court’s instructions. Ministers also asked for the intervention of the governor in dealing with the ongoing questions at Keral University.
However, the sources indicated that Mr Alekar claimed that the meetings were made in accordance with the legal provisions.
Mr. Rajeeve later told the Mediaperson that interviews were “positive” and that the government has committed to solving this problem by legal and democratic means. The government also remained hope of consensus, he added.
