Minister Shaji urges students to debate on dialogue, not victory

Minister for Local Government KM Shaji urged students to see debates as a means of promoting understanding, promoting human values ​​and building a more peaceful and inclusive world, rather than a competition to defeat opponents.

Inaugurating the Global Debaters Summit: All Kerala Model United Nations (GDSMUN) at Peace Public School, Kottakkal, on Saturday (July 11), Mr. Shaji emphasized the importance of diversity and inclusive dialogue in shaping a better society.

“Just as the seven colors of the rainbow combine to create a beautiful spectrum, each individual contributes a unique voice and perspective to society. It is this diversity that strengthens humanity. Never hesitate to speak your mind,” he said.

More than 350 students from schools across Kerala participated in the summit where they discussed global issues and developed skills in diplomacy, leadership, critical thinking, negotiation and public speaking through a simulated UN platform.

Representing committees modeled after UNESCO, UNICEF, the UN General Assembly and the Skiing Council, delegates discussed current global challenges, negotiated resolutions and participated in structured diplomatic meetings.

PA Kabir, Chairman, Almas Group of Institutions presided over the inaugural function. School Principal M. Jouhar welcomed the gathering while Benchmarks International School Principal K. Unnikrishnan delivered the keynote address.

Malappuram Sahodaya School Complex President M. Abdul Nasser inaugurated the valedictory function. Sweety S. Pulikkottil and Gopakumar K. distributed prizes to the outstanding delegates. The program was coordinated by GDSMUN Director Ranjith Kurup.
