The Center will expand full support for Kerala to implement the regional fast transit system (RRTS) as soon as the state has submitted a detailed report on the project (DPR), Minister of Trade Unions for Housing and City Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar said.
He focused on the opening session of the two -day urban conclave of Keral, where he was the main guest. Khattar said the main Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has already pointed out the Rapid Rail project. “The success of the metro and the Kochi metro and the water metro shows Kerala’s potential in modern transport infrastructure. The developmental work of Kochi’s metro expansion is also running smoothly, while state and central governments work hand in hand,” he added.
The Minister also quoted similar cooperation between the center and the state in the “SmartCity” projects carried out in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.
Khattar called Kerala a potential candidate to become the longest city in the world, pointing out that the section 700 km from the barragod to Thiruvananthapurama could develop into a continuous city corridor. “Over the years, Kerala will achieve almost 95% of urbanization and become the most cross -country state in India,” he said, adding that Kerala should seek to compare global benchmarks set by cities such as Dubai, Singapore, London and Washington.
“Kerala must strive to ensure the best place in the country in terms of standards of city development and liveability,” Khattar said.
