Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna on Thursday inspected the Yesvantpur Bus Station and reviewed its operation in terms of maintenance and cleanliness.
During the visit, the minister reviewed the various facilities available at the depot and reviewed its overall performance under the ongoing special cleanliness campaign.
Yesvantpur Coaching Depot, one of the key maintenance units under South Western Railway, currently maintains 41 rakes and 909 coaches. It provides primary and secondary train maintenance and also operates the turning points on the platforms. The depot carries out ongoing overhaul of ICF and LHB buses to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers.
Mr. Somanna also visited the depot garden where the railway has created a remarkable 11-feet tall horse sculpture made entirely from waste materials such as nuts, bolts, washers, metal ropes and springs.
According to officials, the statue was created by the depot staff as part of the Swachhata campaign’s Waste to Art initiative.
“The sculpture highlights innovative recycling practices and artistic expression on the railway premises,” officials added.
