Tamil Nadu Minister for the Act of S. Regapathy on Monday (April 21, 2025) rejected the DMK MLA request, which sought special legal regulations in the state. In an interview in the Assembly, the Minister claimed that such a law “will not stop one faith or will not protect the other”.
“People would have their own beliefs. A person’s faith may be a superstition; someone else can be a religious belief. According to the Constitution, they could only protect their own rights. This would not be possible (law) would not be possible, and we cannot provoke legal regulations to stop one belief or other,” Mr. Regupathy said.
While he responds to the request of the legislature of DMK N. Ezhilan, Mr. Regupathy said: “There is nothing wrong with watching our own principles. We have to find out if it would be acceptable to try (it).”
Previously, Mr. Ezhilan referred to Article 51 and (h) of the Constitution to say that it is the duty of every citizen to develop a scientific mood, humanism and the spirit of investigation and reform. He tried to know if the state government would adopt special legislation that would cancel superstitions and help people fulfill their duties.
