Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister MRK Panneerselvam on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the restoration of two heritage buildings – the 17th century medical officer’s bungalow and the more than century-old port officer’s building at Devanampattinam in Cuddalore.
The building center and heritage preservation department of the Public Works Department (PWD) has taken up the restoration work at an estimated cost of ₹10.15 crore.
Both buildings have not been used for the past few decades and have remained in a state of disrepair.
Mr. Panneerselvam said that ₹ 4.98 crore improvement work is underway at Silver Beach in Cuddalore to increase the number of tourists. The works include setting up Neithal park, sign boards and toilet complex. In addition, various beautification and improvement works were also taking place on the beach.
Work has been carried out to create facilities including running track, watch tower, LED street lights, CCTV, improved parking space, comfort station and cafe at a cost of ₹4 crore.
The renovation of Subburayulu Park in Cuddalore is nearing completion and will be opened to public soon, he said.
Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar and Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar were present.
