Minister launches sheep and goat insurance scheme in Karimnagar

KARIMNAGAR

Animal Husbandry Minister Vakiti Srihari said the state government was committed to the welfare of the pastoral community and urged sheep farmers to improve the productivity of sheep and goats and increase their income.

Mr. Srihari along with Social Affairs and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar launched the State Government’s Sheep and Goat Insurance Scheme by releasing a poster.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Srihari said that farmers can insure their sheep and goats by paying only ₹ 13 per animal per year, with the government bearing the remaining premium.

He said steps would also be taken to waive off loans to sheep farmers and make other welfare measures more transparent. Mr. Prabhakar said that about 3,200 members are currently enrolled in about 750 Golla Kuruma cooperative societies in the district.

Responding to the society members’ request for pensions from the age of 55, Mr. Prabhakar said the proposal would be forwarded to the government.

He said the government has approved a life insurance policy of ₹5,000 for each member under the Indiramma Bima scheme.

He urged the Animal Husbandry Minister to facilitate allocation of vacant government land for sheep rearing and suggested setting up a wholesale meat market in Karimnagar.

Earlier, the ministers unveiled the statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar at the Karimnagar Bus Stand premises and decorated the statue of Chakali Ilamma on her birth anniversary.

The Ministers later attended a meeting of ‘Mudiraj Simhagarjana’ in Sircilla and reviewed the arrangements for a visit to the city on September 30 proposed by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
