
Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister J. Chinchurani on Wednesday launched the National Milk Day celebrations organized by Milma, commemorating the immense services of Verghese Kurien, whose efforts boosted the growth of the country’s dairy sector and ensured financial security to countless farmers. She highlighted the vital role of Milma in the growth of dairy products in the state, which has resulted in a surge in both milk production and milk procurement, which has ensured steady livelihood for dairy farmers for the past 45 years.
“Milma has always prioritized the welfare of dairy farmers by providing additional incentives, cattle subsidies and other welfare schemes,” the minister noted. She further added that in the last financial year, Milma returned 92.5 percent of its profits to dairy farmers through various social programs and incentives.
Elaborating on the operational success of Milma, Minister J. Chinchurani said that the cooperative has transformed into a prominent organization with an impressive annual turnover of ₹ 4,327 crore. Highlighting its day-to-day operations, she noted that Milma procures approximately 1.25 million liters of milk per day and sells approximately 1.65 million liters per day. In addition, the minister revealed a significant achievement that Milma recorded a 14 percent increase in milk purchases from April to September this year, a record.
