Duraimuruugan, Minister for Water Sources, launched ARUMPARUTHI on Wednesday near Katadadi in Vellore on Wednesday, which built a new Dyke of 24.82 GBP.
Officials of the WRD department (WRD) who performed the work said that the new dam in ARUMPARUTHI is one of the five dams built in Katpadi and Gudiyatham Taluk across the river Palalar and its tributary, Malatar in Vellore.
“The new device will help us cultivate at least three seasons a year. It also contributes to exhaustion of water resources in this area,” said K. Vembu, farmers.
Another new Dykes is built in Shenbakkam (Vellore Corporation), Kugaiyanalore, Masigam Village in the district. In Ranipet, he is under construction in Thiruparparadal near Walajah.

Among them is a dam in the village of Thiruparparadal the longest facility (1,345 meters), while the dam in the village of Masigam near the Katado across the Malatar River is the shortest (220 meters).
“Dykes help store excess rainwater that is released into the Palalar River. Such a device was built depending on the exhaustion of groundwater in identified areas along the river,” said Hindu R. Ramkumar, assistant engineer (AE), PWD (Katpadi).
On average, each dam helps teaching groundwater for about three km of radius around the device. It will help irrigate about 20,000 hectares of agricultural land in at least 30 villages. Paddy is the main crop in these villages due to less water use.
The new dam in the village of Arumparuthi, built as part of the National Agriculture Development System, is 720 meters long, 85 meters wide across the river and a deeper eight meters. In addition to irrigation, the new player helps to recharge 251 Farmwells in the Katpadi area. It will also increase groundwater levels at a distance of at least three km in its vicinity.
WRD officials said they currently have civic bodies, including the Vellore Corporation, near the new dam to draw water for home consumption. The new device will help increase the water level in these drills.
