The Minister of the Municipal Administration and the Development of the Cities (Ma & UD) P. Narayan urged urban corporations and municipalities to give the highest priority of waste management, while saying that the disposal of approximately 6,500 tons of solid waste generated daily was a difficult task.
Narayana, who dealt with a seminar about “building capacity and behavior” organized by Swachha Andhra Corporation (SAC), said nearly 8 million tonnes (MT) garbage accumulated during the YSR Congress (YSRCP) mode.
He said that proven procedures for the disposal of solid and liquid waste in other countries have been adopted and focused on the spread of awareness of cleanliness so that people do not grow streets and other public spaces.
President SAC K. Pattabhiram said he recently observed during a tour of Europe that public awareness in these countries was remarkable.
In Andhra Pradesh, the appropriate emphasis was placed on the proper disposal of plastic waste, which is dangerous, said Mr. Pattabhiram, adding that, including cleanliness as a topic in the school curriculum, a sense of responsibility would instill.
The Chief Secretary of S. Suesh Kumar said that Andhra Pradesh was sixth in last year’s Swachh Survekshan ranking and efforts were made to improve it. Director of Municipal Administration and City Development Sampath Kumar, CEO of SAC P. Anil Kumar and others.
