A 34 -year -old migrating worker from Jharkhand died in a landslide launched by heavy rain during the national construction of a highway in Chalakkunn, near Koothuparamba, in Kannura on Saturday evening. The deceased was identified as Biyas Owan.
The incident occurred around 17:00 near the service road connecting Chalakkunn with Koothuparamba. Owan, who was engaged in concrete work on the road, was buried under the landslide when the soil and concrete wire collapsed on it.
Although firefighting and rescue services and the police threw themselves into the place, the collaborators had already pulled him out of the debris and took him to the hospital in Kannura, where he was declared dead.
The officials stated that no one else was injured in the incident that occurred on the road with minimal operation. The joint inspection was later carried out by the police and firefighting and emergency services.
This is the second fatal landslide, including migrating workers during the construction of highways in northern Kerala within a few days. A similar tragedy recently appeared in Cheruvathur in the district of Kasaragod.
The back incidents were worried about the safety measures at construction sites, especially during the monsoon season.
