Migrant laborer killed in wild elephant attack in Idukki
A 28-year-old migrant worker from Madhya Pradesh was killed in a wild elephant attack near Santhanpara, under Devikulam forest in Idukki on Thursday evening. According to preliminary reports, the deceased has been identified as Kumar. The incident occurred around 9.30 pm on the road between Ayyanpara and Kampani estates near Pethotta. Another worker who was with him managed to escape without injury.
Munnar Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Abhay Yadav also confirmed the death. Officials said a joint team of forest personnel and police rushed to the spot after the incident. This is the third fatal attack by a wild elephant under the Devikulam Forest Range in four months — on August 27, S. Ochappan, a 68-year-old farmer from Tamil Nadu, was killed in Thalakkulam near Pooppara, and on June 8, Mari, a resident of Chinnakkanal, was trampled.
